Introduction

This course is designed for healthcare workers who administer medicines as part of their role and wish to strengthen their knowledge and skills in safely managing and administering medication in their care setting.

• The legislation and guidelines around the use and handling of medications (Medicines Act 1968, NICE Guidelines, Royal Pharmaceteucal Society, NMC)
• Consent
• Professional responsibility and or accountability
• Standards for safe administration of medicines
• Administration of medication
• Medication error and contributory factors
• Duty of candour
• Medication routes
• Medication Administration Record Sheet
• Demonstration of administering techniques
• Practical exercise

Course Outcomes

By the end of this medication administration course, delegates will understand legislation and guidelines around the use and handling of medicines, consent, medication routes, safe administration of medicines, documentation, record keeping, and professional accountability and or responsibility.

Delegates will also participate in demonstrations to administrate medicines orally and topically.
